Getting To Los Cabos:

By Air -

Most places in the United States are connected to Los Cabos directly by air, and it is the most preferred way of getting there. San José del Cabo International Airport (SJD) at Los Cabos is 13 kilometres (about eight miles) away from San Jose to the north and 48 kilometres (29 miles) from Cabo San Lucas. The San José del Cabo International Airport receives more than 150 flights every week. Of these, airlines that ply regular flight schedules are Continental Airlines, American Airlines, America West, Alaska Airlines, Aero Mexico, Mexicana and Aero California. Mexico has strict rules like restrictions on duty free items such as cigarettes, cigars and alcohol/wine. Some items such as firearms that do not have a Mexican permit and drugs are absolutely forbidden on flights.

By Bus -

Buses to Los Cabos are available from Tijuana to La Paz and from La Paz to Cabo San Lucas. The trip takes about 27 hours. Visitors are recommended to choose first class. Seeing Mexico by bus is the most inexpensive way of seeing the country.

By Car -

Los Cabos is connected to Tijuana by the Transpeninsular Highway and though the trip takes two days, it is not to be missed due to the wealth of natural beauty that can be viewed along the way. Driving at night in Mexico should be avoided in order not to miss even a minute of the spectacular ride and also to avoid accidents with livestock that cross the highway. Once you reach La Paz, another 60 miles to the south will take you to Cabo San Lucas. Be sure to have Mexican automobile insurance if you choose to drive as it is illegal to do so without it.

By Sea -

Visitors planning to sail to Los Cabos must comply with all the Mexican regulations that govern entry into Mexican territorial waters. Also, upon reaching the marina or anchorage at your destination, you would be required to submit your documentation to the Captain of the Port for legalised entry. Visitors are advised to contact the Mexican consulate for details.

Getting Around Los Cabos

By Car -

If you plan to make day trips to the beach or villages nearby, renting a car is the best option. Most agencies have helpdesks at the airport and offices in one or both of the main towns of Cabo or San Jose. Visitors are charged around 80 USD per day for car rental in Los Cabos.

By Taxi -

Taxi services, especially in Cabo San Lucas, can be unreliable. The best option is to check with your Los Cabos hotel and go with their recommendation and also to fix the taxi rates with the hotel. Even so, it is good practice to check with the driver before getting into the taxi and set the price beforehand. Groups can bargain for discounts.

By Bus -

Buses operate regularly between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas with a fare of about 1.50 USD and a journey time of 30 minutes, and between San Jose and La Paz with a fare of 7 USD and a journey time of two and a half hours. The bus station in Cabo is at Zaragoza and at 6 de Septiembre, while the one in San Jose is at Valerio Gonzalez, east of the Transpeninsular Highway.
